Seeing as you have made it here, you probably already know the benefits of cedar logs…it's longevity, water protection, and best of all the beauty, so I am not going to waste time telling you about those qualities.
All of my cedar log items are custom handcrafted pieces made from Michigan white cedar, soon to include southern red cedar. All furniture is custom designed and created as specified by you. I will work to help you come up with the design for the piece that will work best for each situation.
I have a strong belief that in order to call furniture “rustic”, it must have one primary characteristic, and that is that it must look handcrafted. This means that the joints are not mass produced with machined tenons and that the logs themselves are not machine finished. If you have been looking for rustic furniture for any length of time you will notice that 99% of the cedar and pine furniture you find in the stores have both of these characteristics…all the joints look alike, and the logs are close to perfectly round. Now to me, this makes the furniture appear mass produced, and therefore not feel “rustic”.
I take a deep pride in the creation of unique, custom, handcrafted,and thereby “rustic” log furniture. Now does this mean I don't take advantage of the incredible range of power tools? Absolutely not. The point is to make sure that all pieces created are unique and that they look and feel “rustic” and handcrafted. This is accomplished by making all visible joints handcrafted with a hatchet and chisel. This takes a significantly longer time, much greater patience and care to do, but the end result is that each joint has a unique character and personality. All visible logs are also hand sanded to maintain their unique contours. Once again, this increases the time to produce a piece of furniture, but adds one more aspect of a true rustic feel. I love the joy and satisfaction that comes from producing truly “rustic” looking furniture that is beautiful and lasting. If you have been looking at “rustic” log furniture for very long, you will see that my prices are competitive with the mass produced looking pieces you will find out there, even though my creations take much longer due to the care, passion and patience I put into each piece.
